Board FAQ

Postby Curulan » July 2nd, 2006, 12:11 am

Q: What is this place?

A: The Clan Titan Forums are the web boards for Clan Titan, an On-line Gaming Community. Clan Titan was founded in 1998 in Dragon Court by Menttal and has been the most popular and powerful clan in Dragon Court for nearly 10 years. Clan Titan was the first clan to break the 10,000 Power threshold (and therefore, the first clan to obtain four clan abilities), as well as the first clan to break the 15,000 Power threshold, if only for a brief time.

Clan Titan has also pioneered a vast roleplaying universe, using the world of Dragon Court as a base.

A general FAQ concerning how a phpBB works can be found here: http://clantitan.org/forum/faq.php
A general FAQ concerning BBCodes can be found here: http://clantitan.org/forum/faq.php?mode=bbcode

Q: How do I register an account?

A: Registering is very easy. In fact, there are only four steps:

STEP 1: Click the "Register" link at the top of the page.

STEP 2: Click the appropriate button indicating your age.
NOTE: This action is in place due to a law in the United States known as COPPA -- the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act. In plain terms, this law means any website that collects information from a user must have parental or guardian consent if the user is under the age of 13. Currently, this website does not require the submission of a parental consent form (though we strongly request it) and your account will be activated once you have contacted an administrator. However, since the hosting of this site is within the United States, and this Clan's leadership is bound under the terms of United States law, if we are contacted and formally requested to comply with COPPA, we will do so. This section of the registration process is for our protection, so please be honest. We will not prevent you from accessing the forum if you are younger than 13 years of age.

STEP 3: Agree to the phpBB terms of use.

STEP 4: Fill in the information on the account creation page.

STEP 5: Once your account has been created, you will receive an email with an activation link. You must follow this link in order to use your account. If you are younger than 13, your account will require an adminstrator to activate it.

Q: So I've registered an account, now what?

A: Once your account is registered, you can begin chatting on our forums. Make sure you log in to your account, as some of our forums have special requirements.

Q: Okay, I'm in. What are all these places?

A: We have given each forum a description to make it easy to determine which forum is for what. However, here is a listing for convenience:

Roleplaying forums:
Palace Rantings - This forum is for casual and non-canon roleplaying.
Grand Hall - The Grand Hall is home to Clan Titan's official roleplaying system.

General forums:
Golden Griffon - Formerly known as the "Titan Tavern", this is the place where all of Clan Titan's members and guests can gather and talk about anything. This forum serves as the "general discussion" forum, and anyone (registered or unregistered) can access it. The name was changed to promote roleplaying and to eliminate confusion with Dragon Court's own forum, which is often called "the Tavern" in shorthand.
Suggestions and Issues - This is the Clan's "comment box" and "support forum". If you have an issue to discuss, or a problem with the board, here is where you should post.
Titan Art Gallery & Polling Place - This forum is where you will go to have someone make you a signature image or to post a poll for forum-goers to vote on.
Other Games Forum - This is a general forum for discussing games other than Dragon Court.

Dragon Court forums:
Dragon Court Main Forum - This is the general discussion forum for Dragon Court. If you have an achievement you want to brag about in DC, post it here. This forum is open to unregistered guests, as well.
Hall of Answers - If you have a question about Dragon Court, this is the place to ask.
Member Services - Use this forum to request items, equipment, or marks for improving your character.

Q: I don't see (forum)? Where did it go?

A: Most of the members-only forums are now hidden from non-members. If you are a member of Clan Titan in one of our games and have not yet been given access, just post in the appropriate thread for that game and one of our admins will give you access when they have time.

Q: Where do I test my signature?

A: Due to the way phpBB handles signatures, you no longer have to "test" signatures to see if you got them right. Once you change your signature in your profile, it changes on all your posts. Just open up a recent post you made to see the changes. We no longer permit "sig test" posts and they will be removed as spam.

Q: How do I get a custom title?

A: Currently, this board does not have custom user titles. We are working on finding a MOD to add this function.

Q: I see a post that's inappropriate. What should I do about it?

A: Simply click the "Report Post" icon that appears on all posts. Once you click the icon, you will be asked to give a short description of why you reported the post. The report will then be sent to our board moderators who will review the report and act on it, if necessary.

Q: What happened to the clan chat?

A: The IRC-based clan chat may be accessed directly using any IRC client by connecting to the server irc.clantitan.org and joining the channel #titan. If you do not have a dedicated IRC client, you can download an add-on for Firefox called ChatZilla.

You can also click the Chat link at the top of the forums.

Q: How do I get my signature to show up?

A: When you register your account, this option is turned on by default. To change the default behavior, simply toggle the Attach my signature by default: to "Yes". If you want to change this setting for an individual post, you can either tick or un-tick the Attach a signature (signatures can be altered via the UCP) option that appears below the text box.

Q: Why don't I see any signatures?

A: You may have accidentally disabled the option in your Control Panel. To change this, simple toggle the Display signatures: option in your Control Panel. You will find this option under "Board preferences" in the "Edit display options" section.

Board Policy

Postby Curulan » July 2nd, 2006, 12:12 am

Board Policy

To avoid the appearance of being "forum Nazis", the primary rules of this message board are "Common Sense". However, we feel that the following subjects need to be touched on, specifically:

Flaming
Flaming is defined on this board as "any action or speech intended specifically to incite conflict". Flaming is not permitted on this board. Examples of flaming include, but are not limited to: Libel, direct or implied insult, graphic mocking (signatures, etc), and false accusations.

Spam
Spam is defined on this board as "any post that goes against the intended purpose of a thread or forum". For example, posting about your achievements in NewAge on the Dragon Court forum would be considered spam. We have tried to make sure there is a forum for everything you want to discuss here, so we ask you keep your posts confined to the intended topics.

Four other issues also fall under this section: thread hijacking, thread necromancy, multi-posting, and link posting.

Thread Hijacking
Thread hijacking is defined on this board as "any post that attempts to derail or change the direction of a thread". If you need to address a new issue in the course of a thread, please start a new thread.

Thread Necromancy
Thread necromancy is defined on this board as "replying to a thread that has had no activity for more than two weeks". If you wish to revisit the topic an older thread covers, please start a new thread. You may reference the old thread if necessary. If an old thread is necro'ed, it will be closed to new posts.

Multi-Posting
Multi-posting is defined on this board as "making two or more posts consecutively by a single member". Multi-posting often only serves as a method for increasing one's post-count artificially. If you find that you have more to say on a subject, but no one has yet replied to your last post, please simply edit your last post. This ruling includes "bumping". If you feel that a thread needs to be at the top of the forum, talk to one of the moderators about having it set as a Sticky post. They will ultimately decide on whether it merits the status or not.

Link Posting
In order to curb the posting of spam on this board, we have instituted a "probation" period for new members. Until this period has passed, new members are not permitted to post any links. Based on the current volume of posting, we have set this period at five days and five posts. If the usage on this site changes significantly, the duration of the period will be revisted.

Signatures and Avatars
For the sake of our members who are still using small screen resolutions, there are restrictions over the size of signatures permitted on this board. Signatures may contain no more than one single image with four or five lines of accompanying text. The dimensions of the image should be no larger than 400 pixels wide by 200 pixels tall. Exceptions to this rule will be examined on a case-by-case basis. Any text more than four or five lines should be placed on a website and linked to, rather than included as a signature.

Avatars larger than 100x100 pixels are not permitted.

Politics
In the past, the discussion of politics on our forums has resulted in very inflammatory comments. As a result, the discussion was previously banned. However, we have decided to lift this ban on a probationary basis. If we find that our members cannot discuss political issues calmly and maturely, we will reinstate this ban immediately.

Criminal Activities
In the past, Clan Titan has forbidden the discussion of any topic that violates the laws of the United States. Specific examples include piracy and the use of controlled substances. However, I -- speaking as the owner and administrator of this account -- also feel that the discussion of such issues is protected by the First Amendment of the United States constitution. Therefore, we will allow these topics for the purpose of intelligent, thoughtful discussion. If we find that this is not possible within our membership, we will again ban the discussion of these topics. It is forbidden to post information involving the distribution or location of illegal goods and services.

Pornography
As we have many children in our community, the discussion and posting of pornography is explicitly forbidden. The definition of pornography on this board is defined at the moderators' discretion, and need not be defined to the membership.

Copyright Issues
Speaking again as Curulan, the Clan's leader, I am a strong proponent of the intelligent protection of copyright. In short, this is the belief that copyright exists to protect the incentive to create artistic works. As such, I defend the copyrights of other people. If you use another artist's work in your signature or other graphics, Clan Titan requests that you first obtain the artist's permission. If you are realistically unable to contact the original artist, the Clan will permit the unauthorized use of their work under the assumption of "fair use" until such time as we are contacted by the original artist. If we are requested to remove unauthorized derivations of an artist's work, we will do so.

Profanity
Again, because we have a large number of children on this board, Clan Titan also wishes to keep it free from profanity. Profanity is not explicitly banned, but it is censored in all non-roleplaying forums. Even in roleplaying, we ask that you keep profanity to a minimum. Our chat has a minor censor built in, but you will be ejected and possibly banned from chat and the forums if you use excessive profanity in either place.

Advertisements for other clans / Referral links
As a rule, Titan forbids the advertisement for other Clans on our forums. This includes the posting of referral links which can be used to provide a benefit to a specific clan or member in a given game. An exception is made for a single referral link, for yourself, in your signature. Additionally, the link must be specifically labeled as a referral link.

The posting of any referral link for a game that uses referral links as its core function, such as Outwar, is strictly forbidden. The posting of any referral link for a site that pays money to the user is also strictly forbidden.

Board Moderation

Our Global moderators monitor our board in two ways: by examining posts that are reported by the members and by reading through the forums daily. If they find a post or other action that goes against the intent of this board and its policy, they have full authority to take action against the offender. The following "punishment" scale has been set up for this purpose:

First Offense: Private warning sent by PM and email.
Second Offense: Account deactivated for one week.
Third Offense: Account deactivated and banned for one month.
Fourth Offense: Ban by IP address. Duration will be determined by the moderator.
Fifth Offense: Permanent ban and ejection from our Clan's games.

For the sake of propriety, the previous scale is primarily for policy purposes, and the moderators will fully examine the severity of the offense. As such, the punishment enacted with largely be at the Moderators' discretion. However, in all cases the poster will be informed of his offense and why he was punished.

Moderators and Administrators have the final say in all moderation issues.
