F. Character Overview
Z'iirr, 148 years old, is a large Vasah (a bipedal tiger), standing 9'6" and weighing over 750 lbs. He is an extremely agile and fast hunter, having been forced to hunt in the dense forests of his homeland for over a century. Z'iirr holds a secret grudge against humans and Drow in general, and an open hostility to slavers belonging to any race. Also, for reasons unknown, Z'iirr has a connection with the Arcane that can't be explained. He's been seeking a tutor in the Arcane arts for several months now.
G. Ability
Z'iirr's abilities include resistance to diseases, the ability to communicate with natural felines, and a subtle connection with the Arcane. However, above all, Z'iirr is a superb hunter and tracker due to his superior sense of sight, smell, and hearing.
H. Physiology
Z'iirr is 9'6" and weighs just over 750 lbs. His fur is dark gray and black in coloring, but fades to white underneath his eyes, along his muzzle, and down the front of his neck, chest, stomach, the inside portions of his arms and legs, and beneath his tail. His tail measures nearly 4'8" long, and his claws are 3 inches long each. Z'iirr has blue eyes and a black nose. The dark coloration of the top portion of his fur allows him to be a stealthy predator at night whenever he travels on all fours.
I. History
Z'iirr's early life is worth little mention. He was born Ma'Aiha Paki (Child Outcast of clan Paki) and was the oldest kitten of five. He was different from the rest of the Vasah in his dark colored fur and was an outcast. The Elders considered his dark fur to be a bad omen and decided to have the newborn kitten executed. However, when the kitten was brought before the Queen, Ri'Barezhia Mog'Ur, she fell in love with beautiful appearance of the the dark fur of the kitten and, ignoring the Elders' pleas, allowed the kitten to live.
Ma'Aiha grew up to be Ja'Aiha Paki (Adolescent Outcast of clan Paki), and then into Jo'Aiha Paki (Adult Outcast of clan Paki). He had only two friends, Z'Herne Mog'Ur (Respected Leader Royal of clan Ur), the crown Prince, and Ji'Ahnass Sihk'Valahr (Adult Timid Thief Artisan of clan Valahr). Jo'Aiha secretly loved Ji'Ahnass for several years, but remained silent. In doing so, Ji'Ahnass never realized this and married another Vasah. Hurt, Jo'Aiha became more reclusive.
When Jo'Aiha was 140, a large band of human and drow slavers ventured further north than normal, deep into the dense jungles inhabited by the Vasah. Slaves were in high demand to labor in the fields and plantations of the wealthy Imperials to the south, and they had to meet their quota. They raided village after village of the Vasah, killing the warriors and wizards with expert ease, and enslaved the females and children. Ji'Ahnass was one of the Vasah that was captured and her lover was killed. Thrown into a fit of uncontrollable rage, Jo'Aiha led over a hundred warriors and wizards to kill all of the slaver parties, leaving their capital literally defenseless.
Tragedy struck Jo'Aiha and his war band, and many were killed in the first skirmish. The Drow had brought many powerful wizards and sorcerers whilst the humans had warriors of unbelievable might, and the Vasah fled. Wounded, demoralized, and weary, Jo'Aiha and his party finally surrounded after being pursued for several hours. Shackled and chained, they were marched several dozen miles south out of the jungles and into the flat, fertile lands that supported hundreds of plantations and farms. They were brought to the slave market and were auctioned off. Since Jo'Aiha was powerful, large, and different from the rest of the Vasah, his price was of unbelievable worth.
After being bought by a wealthy human noble and his Drow wife, Jo'Aiha and several of his warriors were taken to their plantation where they were tortured, starved, and beaten until all but Jo'Aiha cracked. The others revealed the secret location of their capital, the other villages, the names of their leaders, and other pertinent information.
Jo'Aiha, however, remained silent despite his excrutiating torture. For 164 days he was beaten and abused, starved half to death, and driven nearly insane. Confused by the stubborness of such a "simple beast", the Drow sorceress (as she turned out to be) paid a visit to her Vasah slave. Since she was now alone with Jo'Aiha and not surrounded by hundreds of others, she could now sense his tie with the Arcane forces. It was subtle, but it was present nonetheless. Shocked, she ordered the torture to stop and to have him placed in one of the slave shacks to recover before going back to work. Jo'Aiha went into unconsciousness shortly thereafter.
During the time that Jo'Aiha was tortured, the Imperials and their Drow allies had marched into the capital of the Vasah and laid waste to their civilization. The entire crown family was enslaved, as were the rest of the Vasah (mainly women and children, as Jo'Aiha had led most of the wizards and warriors to kill the slavers). They were all auctioned off at the slave markets and, by chance, Z'Herne Mog'Ur was bought by the same noble that owned Jo'Aiha.
When Jo'Aiha regained consciousness, he found himself in a small, cramped slave shack under the care of Ji'Ahnass. She revealed to him that due to his stubborn resistance to the torture, he had inspired hope into the rest of the Vasah. One by one, the Vasah slaves were beginning to revolt, refusing to work in the fields despite whatever torture was brought upon them. The revolt was gaining momentum, and Ji'Ahnass wanted Jo'Aiha to lead it.
After some persuasion, Jo'Aiha accepted. He met with Z'Herne Mog'Ur and several other Vasah that he appointed as Lieutenants for the revolt. Realizing that not all of the Vasah supported him, he slowly won their acceptance and began a series of sabotages. From breaking farm equipment to poisoning the guards' foods to mysterious "incidents", the revolt gained popularity, and Jo'Aiha was seen as an idol by all of the Vasah slaves.
Finally, passive resistance and sabotage broke into a full revolution. In the dead of night, 450 Vasah slaves led by Jo'Aiha, Z'Herne Mog'Ur, and their Lieutenants stormed into the guard towers and barracks, killing every human and Drow they encountered. The fastest Vasah were tasked to cutting off the exit of the slavers (which were the gates in the walled plantation) whilst the slaughter took place. The Vasah burned down all of the towers and barracks, the stables and the silos, the storagehouse and the slave shacks (after they were cleared out), but were ordered to keep the plantation owner's manor intact.
Jo'Aiha went in alone, slaughtering Drow and human alike, and fought his way to his master's bedroom. He found the noble cowering in a corner, and Jo'Aiha made his death as slow and painful as possible before throwing him out of the window and into the mob of Vasah to do what they pleased with the corpse. Jo'Aiha was about to leave, but he ran across the Drow sorceress again. She was in the middle of preparing a spell, and Jo'Aiha wasted no time in smashing her face into a wall. With the spell disrupted, the Vasah made sure that he brutally wounded the Drow before throwing her into the mob as well.
The Vasah slaves burned down the manor the moment Jo'Aiha exited, and they disappeared into the night. As the royal family was split up, the Vasah wanted to make Jo'Aiha their new leader. He refused politely, stating that the royal family was still alive and that it was their role, not his, to lead the Vasah. If none of the other royals were still alive, Z'Herne Mog'Ur, the crown Prince, still was. Z'Herne was declared the King of the Vasah until his father was found and the royal family was free.
Jo'Aiha was then renamed Z'iirr Ko'Paki (Respected Revolutionist Wizard (Wizard because the sorceress mentioned his tie with the Arcane) of clan Paki) for his part in the successful revolt, and the Vasah led an 8 year skirmish and guerilla war against the Imperials. The royal family was freed, and Ro'Abzhiini Mog'Ur was reinstated as King whilst his son resumed the position of Prince.
However, the skirmish came to a sudden halt when an army they had never seen before met the Vasah in battle. Realizing that they couldn't fight two armies at once, the Vasah retreated into the seclusion of their jungles and waited for two months. Finally, Ro'Abzhiini declared that if the revolution were to be successful and the rest of the Vasah brothers were to be freed, they would have to place their hopes in Z'iirr Ko'Paki and his powers. Z'iirr wasn't a skilled spellcaster and knew no spells whatsoever. Furthermore, every Vasah spellcaster was dead or enslaved, and the Arcane tomes, scrolls, and artifacts they possessed were all destroyed or stolen by the Imperials. He argued with the King over the issue, but the King would have none of it. He decreed that Z'iirr would simply have to leave the Vasah lands, learn how to cast spells like the humans and the Drow, and return and teach them the secrets of the Arcane.
Thus, Z'iirr embarked on a journey into the unknown world beyond the forests of the Vasah to learn of the Arcane.
J. Mannerisms
Z'iirr is an introvert, and thus is quiet. He rarely interacts with other races, but his curious nature often gets the better of him. Because of his troubled history with humans and Drow, he holds these races in contempt. He is openly hostile against slavers and those that support it. It may seem as if he is hypocritical because his race has a caste just for slaves, but the Vasah's slaves are nothing more than captured warriors stripped of their honor and privaledges.
K. Properties of Choice
Z'iirr owns purple robes embroidered with gold patterns. It is tied by a golden belt made of a substance similar to silk in its smooth feel, but is as strong as wool. The robes are also crafted of the same material. Aside from that, Z'iirr owns nothing else.
L. Sociology
The Vasah rarely interact with other races, but they do have a curious nature that often gets the better of them. Z'iirr is no exception, and is willing to talk to those that draw his interest. His grudge against Drows and humans make conversations with these races difficult, but they can earn his trust if they are also abolitionists.
