An older teenaged man with gray hair and no shoes emerged from the full moon's light into the tavern. Wearing his loose and seemingly borrowed clothing he quietly padded over to the most secluded place he could find, that being a dark corner nearby the child and robed man. Passing by the two his nose twitched at that of a familiar scent. With a glance he looked at the boy, sensing a menacing familiarity.
He took his seat. He had no idea what kind of place he was in, nor who any of these people were, but he was on his guard. He was sure his one sided conversations with zipcat would guarantee his understanding of those who spoke with him, but was not sure how to respond. Yes and no came naturally in head motions, and the only two words he knew of were that of his and his friend's.
A waitress came to wait upon him.
"Oy, what's a young pup like you need from here?"
The man looked at her with prodding eyes and held his face with one hand on the table.
"Cat's got yer tongue? C'mon, what can I getcha?"
The man looked at her with a confused look. She seemed to get the message.
"We have beer, ale, brew, water and meals. What one do ya want?"
The man took these words in deep thought, and responded with a light yet deep voice, "Meals?"
Beginning to tire of this one sided business order, she said, "Food. You order a meal, you get food. Got it?"
He nodded his head, saying, "Meals."
"That's what ya want, doll?"
The man nodded his head. She left him sitting there. The purse that came with his pants clanked when he moved, and so he removed it from his side and opened it upon the table. Down clanked a few coppers and a silver coin. With a riddled look the man examined these coins, poking, prodding and testing them to discover what they were.
