The Triad is the collective name given the races of the original Humans, Elves, and Dwarves who have spread across the universe. These races were orginally believed to be distinct, but recent genetic research on Arda has shown them to be genetically equal, and are really part of the same species.

Members of the Triad have 49 chromosome pairs, with the first 48 being equal to those found on Earth-based humans. The 49th pair carries the distinct traits that make up the racial differences, as well as the capacity for mana manipulation.

History

The Triad would probably be best considered a "devolution" of the Children on Ur.

In the early days of Ur, the Creation Gods came to see that the Children, with their longevity and naturally-high magical ability, were capable of doing severe harm to themselves and their planet. In response to this, they created a weaker and less long-lived race to inhabit the planet with them and as wards for the Gods' firstborn race. This was done in the hopes that the Children would be more careful if they had more fragile companions to shepherd. To separate this race from their precursors, they were made unique in that there were not just one type of creature, but three.

In time, the subraces of the Triad became more populous than the Children -- mostly in part to the Gods limiting the population of the Children to never more than one thousand souls at a time. With the advent of the Starseed Project, they started to populate other words and spread their influence throughout the galaxy. As a result, nearly every race that resembles one of the three subraces is a descendant of this race.
